Econo Air wants to ensure that your family stays warm this winter at a low cost to you. So,we’ve compiled a list of tips that can help you and your family save energy and money.
Take advantage of heat from the sun
-Open curtains during the day to allow the sunlight to naturally heat your home, and close the curtains at night to reduce the chill from cold windows.
Cover windows to reduce drafts
–Tape strong, clear plastic sheets to the inside of window frames during the cold winter months. Make sure it is tightly sealed.
-Install tight insulating drapes on windows that feel drafty after weatherizing.
Adjust the temperature
-When you are awake at home, keep the temperature as low as you can be comfortable at.
-When asleep or away from home, keep the temperature at 10-15 degrees for 8 hours a day to save 10% a year on your heating and cooling bills.
Seal any leaks you find
-Seal air leaks around cut-throughs in pipes, gaps around chimneys, and recessed lights in insulated ceilings.
-Add caulk or weather stripping to seal leaks near leaky doors and windows.
Take care of your heating systems
–Schedule services with Econo Air for affordable heater repair in Modesto, Fresno, and Merced.
-Replace furnace filters once a month or as necessary
-Clean the flue vent in wood heaters regularly and use a wire brush to clean the inside of the heater.
Reduce heat loss from fireplaces
-Keep the fireplace’s damper closed unless you have a fire going. Keeping it open allows warm air to escape straight through the chimney
-When using your fireplace, reduce your heat loss by keeping dampers open in the bottom of the firebox or barely open the nearest window about an inch. Close all doors leading into the room. Lower your thermostat to about 50 degrees.
